The Hong Kong Baseball Association sponsored the first international women’s baseball tournament in Hong Kong, the "Oregon Scientific Phoenix Cup" Hong Kong International Women's Baseball Tournament 2008.
The "Phoenix Cup" was played at the Sai Tso Wan Baseball Field at Lam Tin, Kowloon, from February 14th-17th.
Six teams from Australia, Japan, Korea, North America, Taiwan and Hong Kong competed in this 4-day tournament for the “Phoenix Cup”.
The Far East Bloomers from Japan dominated the competition and went home with the 2008 Phoenix Cup. The North American team placed second and the Aussie Hearts won bronze.
